Jasmins Granville

Abraham Ghazel and his team at Jasmins Granville offer one of the best Lebanese food options in Sydney. An extensive menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Personally, for breakfast, you can’t pass the fatteh and meat – it’s a delicious combination of chickpeas, yoghurt and flatbread topped with mincemeat and pine nuts. Also on offer is a range of hot and cold mezze, dips, seafood, salads, mixed plates and so many delicious meat options. Some of the standouts for me are the chilli lemon garlic chicken and the mansaf lahme, an exotic mix of mansaf spices with rice, mixed nuts and slow cooked lamb shanks.

Jasmins Granville is available for pickup or takeaway with delivery options including Menulog, Uber Eats and Doordash. Also if you order on the Jasmins app or website you can receive 10% off your order.

Hawa Charcoal Chicken

With so many Charcoal Chicken options in Sydney you want to be sure you’re getting the best! This is where Hawa Charcoal Chicken in Granville shines amongst the rest.

Walking along South Street in Granville, the smell of meat cooking on charcoals and grills fills the air. It’s something I look forward to every time I visit. On a normal, busy weekend you’ll see hundreds of diners digging into their succulent juicy chicken. Today, during lockdown, you can still order the full menu online for delivery or pickup.

Their chicken is second to none and they also do a killer garlic sauce. My tip for you all when it comes to enjoying a perfectly cooked chook from Hawa is a few drops of hot sauce, it really adds to the amazing flavour of the smoky chicken skin.

Hawa Charcoal Chicken is open until 12am and is available for takeaway and delivery via Uber eats, Menulog, Deliveroo.

New Star Kebab

You don’t need to look far online to see just how popular New Star is. Features in Broadsheet, Good Food Australia, Timeout Sydney plus many more, and the 2,500+ positive reviews on Google bring cred to the hype.

Normally, you would see the entire outdoor seating area full from morning until midnight. For now, we have to wait and watch the fresh marinated shish kebabs get cooked to order because of COVID-19 restrictions on dining in.

Atilla and his team prepare everything fresh daily and their pides and meats are cooked to order. Be sure to check out their entire menu which is available for takeaway.

My go-to meal is the mixed shish plate which comes with tomato, red cabbage, roast chilli, lemon and Turkish bread. If you’re looking to try something unique, I’d recommend the sucuklu pide, made with Turkish sausage, cheese and eggs.

New Star are currently open 7 days from 12pm – 12am.

El Sweetie

If I had to choose between sweet or savoury, I’ll choose sweets every time! Thankfully, El Sweetie, located on South Street in Granville, is close by and always satisfies my sweet tooth cravings.

With a strong Lebanese heritage, their products reveal authentic flavours and use traditional techniques to achieve beautifully balanced flavour profiles in their immense range of desserts and sweets. They have numerous varieties of baklawa, maamoul, kanafe, halawat, karbouj-maad and cakes galore.

El Sweetie are currently doing takeaway and have beautiful take home packs of their baklawa available.

Paradise Cuisine

On the Hume Highway in Bass Hill, Paradise Cuisine is attached to a service station. Definitely a hidden gem.

They offer a bit of everything here, including specialty pizzas, Turkish pides, kebabs, burgers, gozleme, fish & chips and even traditional baklawa and Turkish delight. The HSP is a guilty pleasure – give me chips, doner kebab and smother it in garlic, BBQ and chilli sauce, and you have yourself one happy man. The bold can up the game with ‘The Heart Attack’ which is a chicken burger with an HSP on the side. Genius!

They have a huge range of family deals to suit everyone. My advice, is to make sure you are hungry when you order. It’s big and it’s good!

Paradise Cuisine is open daily until late with its full menu available online for takeaway or delivery via Menulog and Uber Eats.
